What is The Nook & Cranny?
The Nook & Cranny is a community coffeehouse and café that serves fresh, locally roasted coffee, locally sourced pastries, and quality meat and cheese panini sandwiches. More than a place to grab a great cup of coffee, it’s a welcoming space for connection and a spot where locals come to study, hold meetings, read a book, or simply unwind.Why They Do What They Do
When asked what inspires them to open their doors each morning, owners Nicole and Jeremy Wells laughed and said, “Coffee is what motivates us to get out of bed! We get to come in here and have a cup of the best coffee you can get in Eastern Kentucky.”
Their passion for creating a local gathering place is fueled by a love of community, as well as, a serious dedication to great coffee.
What More People Should Know
Many people don’t realize just how much precision and craftsmanship goes into each cup they brew.
Nicole shared, “There’s a lot that goes into it - the grams of espresso, the amount of water, the way milk is steamed, the exact temperature. That precision is what elevates our coffee and sets it apart from what you can make at home.”
Jeremy added that even their pastries are never frozen. Everything is either made in-house or sourced from local bakers and artisans. Their dedication to quality and collaboration runs deep.
Local Matters
Supporting local isn’t just a slogan for The Nook & Cranny. It’s a way of life.
Nicole put it perfectly:
“That’s how you create a community - by supporting local businesses. They’re what give a town its flavor and make it unique. Walmarts and Targets don’t do that. It’s those mom-and-pop places that make a community stand out.”
Jeremy added, "We’re raising our kids here, and we want them to have something that feels like home. You can go to a Walmart anywhere, but we don’t live in a strip mall. We want our town to have something special.”
